The museum will feature diverse programming that discusses a variety of communities during the Revolution who banded together to push boundaries for what they felt was best for themselves, the community, and the world. $21 adults, $13 kids.

The Penn Museum is holding its annual family-friendly Lunar New Year Festival featuring Asian films, storytelling, art-making, the traditional Lion Dance, and a martial arts tournament. Museum admission is $18 adults, $13 children.

Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his 1963 “Letter from Birmingham Jail” at Philadelphia’s Eastern State Penitentiary during Dr. Martin Luther King Weekend. Engage in special readings from the landmark text and respond to its relevance today. Professional actors, youth and community leaders read excerpts from Dr. King’s letter three times a day on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. After each reading, visitors are invited to respond to the letter’s relevance today during an informal discussion moderated by a civil rights scholar. On Monday, January 20 only, enjoy family activities from 10 am – 4 pm with the African American Museum in Philadelphia and Art Sanctuary, musical performances at 1 pm and 3 pm. Readings and discussion are free and open to the public. Penitentiary admission is $14 adults, $10 children.

2020 MLK Weekend Celebration

The African American Museum of Philadelphia celebrates Martin Luther King all weekend long with special programs and events. On Sat. the museum hosts a day of service where visitors make care packages for Philadelphia families. On Sunday the museum presents Journey: Sounding Resistance and on Monday the annual MLK Day Celebration includes the Citizens Bank Scavenger Hunt, a visit from the Phillie Phanatic, the MLK Memorial Concert and a reenactment of King by Carlo Campbell. Admission is just $2 all weekend long through sponsorship by Citizens Bank.
