Well, I don’t know about you but if I watch one more Hurricane Sandy weather report or read one more website or pin about preparing for an emergency, my head is about going to explode. So we interrupt this day of emergency preparing to offer this roundup of how you’re going to keep the kiddos entertained in case of a power outage. Obviously, this assumes that you are still relatively safe and in your own homes (i.e., not evacuating or thinking about evacuating). This is not a list of crafts and activities for the shelter but rather what to do trapped inside your own house in relative safety but without the joy of electronics for the kiddos.
Here’s our round-up of some fun things to do with your little ones during the storm. What are your plans to keep the kids entertained? We’d love to hear your ideas, too! And be safe everyone.
DIY Halloween Luminaries from the lovely Carrie at Making Lemonade
(perfect for celebrating Halloween indoors without power, ahem. Of course, you could do these with any holiday or character themed stickers, too.)
Hang a sheet or blanket over some chairs or a table and make an indoor campfire from Work Your Mommy Magic. My kids LOVE indoor tents and campfires and of course make sure you bring out the marshmallows, too!
And of course there’s always twister, indoor flashlight tag, charades, simon says, indoor marching band, and all sorts of other fun to be had with the whole family. So, hunker down, hug your littles and have some fun while you wait out this storm if you can!
