Ok, so it’s a heat wave. Yeah yeah. At least we are done with the ridiculous and interminable monsoon rains for a few days, right? The silver lining is there somewhere but truly heatwaves in Philly are beastly. The humidity, the blazing sun, it is painful and heavy to just walk outside, right? So, how do you beat the heat with the kiddos this summer if (like us) you don’t have a pool membership somewhere?
Did you know that Philly has six “official” spraygrounds in Philly and lots of unofficial water areas to cool off too. If you’re looking to get outside and cool off this week, check out one of these great options:
Waterview Recreation Center at Rittenhouse and McMahon Streets
Smith playground at 2100 S. 24th Street
Ferko Playground at ”J” & Cayuga
48th & Woodland
Athletic Recreation Center at 26th & Master Sts.
Clemente Park Playgroundhttp://www.friendsofclemente.org/ at Wallace $ N. 18th Sts.
Plus, in addition to these six official ones there is the always fun Sister Cities Park that not only has a fun spray area but also has a great wading pond and running streams to climb through and cool of. (Note: We were there this weekend and while it was nice to be in the water the water temp was most definitely NOT cool.)
And of course, we have fountains. Lots of fountains. There are always plenty of kids (and usually some adults, too!) splashing about in city’s fountains with probably the most notable being Swann Memorial Fountain in Logan Circle.
Whatever you do, hope you and your littles stay cool and have fun in Philly during this heatwave!
